Weekend Wanderings
Oh my goodness, posting to my blog again?! It’s that Imbolc energy. ^_^ I’ve been making art over the last year, but haven’t had the energy or focus to blog about it. Definitely suffering from an all-or-nothing mind set, when it comes to what I think I should be doing regarding my blog. It’s annoying to keep relearning the whole “imperfection is okay” lesson. T_T And I keep thinking I’ll scan/photograph my work from 2021 that didn’t make it into here yet, but why not start with a little drawing I finished today?

Marker practice and some quick digital drawing drills
Followed through and finished adding marker to yesterday’s line art. I wasn’t sure how well the Ohuhu markers would blend, but I’ve been pleasantly suprised by how nice they work. They bleed all the way through the mixed media paper, though, which is a shame. Similar to Copics, I think they’re better suited to Bristol, marker paper, or even printer paper in a pinch. Mixed media paper is usually closer to a toothy watercolor type paper and absorbs more marker than necessary. At least, that’s what I’ve observed.

A Fairy of Spring
I am channeling some cheery spring energy today! I think this is the first year where I am looking forward to daylight savings time, as it means we are a little closer to nicer weather. This little drawing started as an idea to practice using my Ohuhu markers on color card stock paper. I originally thought I’d do some ivy studies or maybe even simple boxes and cylinders, but instead this was what I went with! The sketch and inking were completed for yesterday’s blog post, so today’s focus was the color.

Sketchbook Randomness
Holds up spork! (kidding!*) Well after yesterday’s lengthy post, tonight’s will be very short. I gathered a bunch of markers in fineliners in a gray/pink/purple/gold color scheme and sketched what was nearby on my desk. Hooray for being productive in kind of laid back way.

Sketchbooks: September 2020 (Part 2)
Happy Saturday! Posting one day after I last posted, ::gasp:: how is it even possible within this space-time continuum?! Anyway, here is part 2 of my sketchbook pages from September – right before moving to my house! <3 The wooden manikin hand I bought from Dick Blick was cool to study. It caused a light bulb moment: the pads of fingers are actually slanting 45 degree(ish) planes in space -not just like ending in round sphere sausages or something. Sketchbook Pages from September
Long time no blog; I’ve been quite busy… ::drum roll please:: …moving! After a long search, Ricky and I bought a house and are all moved in. I knew just the two of us moving all our stuff would be a challenge, but we managed. We did get help from Ricky’s dad, which was necessary for the really heavy stuff, even with a hand cart/dolly to help. I was beyond exhausted and sore and bruised after the solid week it took us to move all our stuff. But I’ve also felt surprised, grateful, and curious for this new adventure. Grounding and Centering
Lately, as this new routine of isolation and extra caution settles in, I’ve been turning to nature and spirituality for comfort and guidance. I wish it hadn’t taken a crisis to help nudge me into this direction, as I’m realizing just how much I was missing having spirituality in my life as a primary part of every day. Spending more time in nature, reading books I’ve been meaning to get around to, journaling more (in my private, personal journal), tending to my altar: it’s all been helping me to feel more grounded and centered.
