Studies from various Pexels photo sources** for today’s practice. I also spent some time drawing with fountain pens, but sharing that will have to wait until the next post of my mark making project. I treated myself to a new pink Kaweco fountain pen and some other goodies from JetPens tonight, but they will probably get here at the end of the month, given shipping delays.

    Cylinders!

Hah, no energy to think of a catchy title. More digital rendering/form study practice. This time, after I finished the contour lines of the shapes, I blocked in a solid flat color into the shapes and then used a clipping layer so that I didn’t have to worry about staying in the lines. I started the background as a midtone, so that the highlights would be extra satisfying.

    Face practice

Spent from 8-10pm tonight sketching around in Photoshop. Was also multitasking as I drew, watching YouTube videos on Fantasy Grounds game master tips, as I am nervous about running a game on Saturday. I’m also still not feeling well, so I’m surprised I managed to make art today. I was mostly moping in the living room while scrolling around on Twitter and YouTube after dinner tonight. Ricky gave me a little nudge to go upstairs, and I’m glad I put the time in.

    Daily practice

I have felt sick most of today – I don’t know if it’s my neck being out or food poisoning or what. So not much words to accompany today’s art. Basically my goal was to practice some basic geometric shapes – especially cylinders. Drawing coffee mugs is a way to keep cylinders feeling more interesting while I draw. I did a page of plain drawing drills (basically quick ovals and rectangles) on newsprint, before opening my sketchbook.

    Digital Sketches and Struggle

Ugh – I tried to have the art for today’s blog post finished by last night, but nothing was going right. It felt like I could not draw what was supposed to be a simple three-quarter view of a female elf character, using Photoshop. The perspective was wrong, the eyes were wrong, and I felt like the time I spent was wasted. So with nothing prepared, I sat down tonight after dinner, put aside the “it’s just not working” painting from last night, and did some simple sketches instead.

Painting practice: coffee and a muffin

This little painting was from last night, while I caught up on watching Critical Role episode 121. I just wanted to sit down and paint – no real idea, no plan for composition and color. And yeah, it shows, but I also had fun, so I don’t mind. And I sooo crave blue berry muffins. I miss my weekly cafe trips pre-Covid. Baked goods and coffee is 100% one of my top happy places. Just *chef’s kiss*
