Digital Painting

Starry Skies (Otherworldly Winds WIP part 2)

I’m not sure if I’d still call this an intuitive painting, now that it’s becoming more realistic. Can a painting be more realistic and still be intuitive? Are all paintings intuitive to one degree or another? All I know is I’m frustrated I had to cut myself short (again) and leave it unfinished! Grrr! But, still, progress! Shiny glowing stars! I’ll take victories where I can get them.

I’m still keeping the petals and plant leaves in the foreground (as seen in yesterday’s post), but I have that layer hidden as I work on the sky.

I’ve yet to use a splatter brush for extra glittery star effect. Which means, yes, I hand painted every little starry dot. What can I say: it was a soothing, repetitive approach.

I’m not 100% sure where this Saturn-like planet is going, but I know I want it there. And I like how it’s angled rings echo the angle of the dunes. I am going to reshape the dune that’s currently touching it’s rings, to cut down on the visual tangent being creating. Or maybe I can just shift the whole planet over a bit. It’s on it’s own layer after all. Blah! I don’t know!

I love drawing stars and nebulas and space stuff. I want to do so many more pieces! It used to be my go-to subject in high school when I was first taking art classes. I’m not sure what makes me take breaks from it. But hopefully this is one of many sci-fi alien planet landscapes!

And now to go read more of Sing the Light, because I’m over half way through. So many sci-fi and fantasy books on our little planet, so little time.

‘Til next time. 🪐✨
