Sunday Sketches
Yesterday was fairly relaxed, but I was feeling restless. And I woke up with a headache, so that’s never fun. I played D&D for a good chunk of the afternoon and sketched a bit, before starting to re-read Starhawk’s Dreaming the Dark, which I haven’t read since borrowing it from my university library back in 2005-ish. I’m excited to dig back into it and see how I’ve changed in how I react to/absorb it. Even if I felt quite “blah” and mopey, I’m proud that I finally did a simple “draw your day” sketch journal page. Earl Grey Tea! Pop-tarts! Reading! D&D!

Sketchbook Update
How is there only one week left in January!? I really wanted to finish filling Sketchbook No. 4 before the end of the month, but I still have 10 pages to go. The balance of wanting to both practice digital painting regularly and keep a traditional sketchbook practice is enough to make my head spin.

Mermaid Wanderings
Yay, watercolor paintings! These mermaid pieces are from October of last year – again trying to catch up on my 2020 art sharing. I’m happy with how flow-y the hair turned out on all three pieces. I felt extremely rusty with using watercolors, and the background of vague seaweed shadows on the first painting was…ugh. Still, even feeling rusty, there are things I can find things I like about the first painting: the light and shadow on the tail and the jewelry pattern.

Sketchbooks: Sept. & Oct. 2020
This post has been sitting in draft mode, pictures all ready to go, but no words. The longer it sits, collecting virtual dust bunnies, the harder it is to write something to go with it! How the heck does anybody find a creative cadence that works?!

Sketchbook Pages from September
Long time no blog; I’ve been quite busy… ::drum roll please:: …moving! After a long search, Ricky and I bought a house and are all moved in. I knew just the two of us moving all our stuff would be a challenge, but we managed. We did get help from Ricky’s dad, which was necessary for the really heavy stuff, even with a hand cart/dolly to help. I was beyond exhausted and sore and bruised after the solid week it took us to move all our stuff. But I’ve also felt surprised, grateful, and curious for this new adventure. Catching up: Character Art & Sketchbook Musings
I finished that mercenary digital painting back in early May. I’ve also been sketching more in my portable sketchbook and picked a few highlights to post. Since my post last spring, I’ve been waiting to post more until I’d figured out a more cohesive plan for how I want to make art, but that is just a laughable goal at this point. I’m far, far too an inuitive person to have a “cohesive” plan. A plan, sure. A plan that goes mostly out the window when the rubber hits the road. The more I wait to think up the perfect plan or perfect order in which to learn and practice…
