• Featured image collage of several drawings of a blonde woman with a silver circlet on her head. There is text on the middle right of the image that says Childhood Drawing Redux. In the top corner of one drawing is the name of the character: Reiellasara.

    Childhood Drawing Redux

Oooooo, the dark theme with aqua text is back; you know I’m feeling nostalgic, ha! I just can’t stick with a light background. Maybe one of these days I’ll make a site theme that has a dark/light toggle, so if it’s really annoying to others it can be toggled off. Anyway, I recently organized a 3-ring binder with my oldest artwork from middle school and high school, and decided to tackle redrawing as much of the contents as possible, starting with the oldest.

    Continuing to Create

It’s been a rough summer, and I’m happy for the turning of the wheel, and the gentler energy of fall. Last night Ricky and I had a little backyard fire, with the full moon overhead and the sound of crickets carrying across the cool air. And now, with the weekend almost over, I’m pausing to post here. I’m so tired of these gaps in my creative journey – but perhaps in a strange way they are building my artistic character, unique to my path?

    A Blargggh Type of Sunday

I had a longer drive this morning coming back from visiting family, and the traffic was so very unenjoyable – people going way, way over the speed limit and weaving their cars across three or four lanes of the interstate, and several going quite under the speed limit. Like ugh, why. And usually traffic isn’t quite so bad the route I go, but all the lanes of the interstate felt packed with cars. Booo. And I didn’t have enough coffee this morning, which is my own fault. At least today was a D&D day, but my character was left off at the end of the game rolling death saves 🥲.

  • Featured image of In Between series part 2 and 3. The left side shows a woman in purple hair wearing a pink dressing gown and holding a lit candle. The Right shows a similar woman with purple hair in a green and purple dressing gown, in a more detailed dark hallway.

In Between – Part 3: Wandering the Halls

I finished this third piece in the In Between series at the end of this past April. I used my iPad, but I am still fairly new to painting with it. I felt like I was fighting against the technology, and unsure of how to use it. Oh, and being indecisive about the color palette – that slowed me down quite a bit. 😅 I’ve bookmarked some online courses for Procreate, so perhaps I’ll get a bit less awkward soon.

    Dancing Sorceress Redux

Redraws of art are so satisfying 😭 This one is from my multimedia sketchbook, which I finished this past spring. I still feel very rusty and unsure with watercolor paint, but I so enjoy the medium. The original painting was from 2017. The second was from January 21, 2023 but done fairly quickly with no references or planning. The last was finished three days later on January 23, 2023, but with some thumbnail sketches, gathering of some references, looking at jewelry designs, etc.

    Cozy Morning Coffee

Long time no blog. >_>*** The push and pull of inspiration versus procrastination. Whee! I’ve been making art (I even went to a drawing workshop, yay!), but I haven’t felt particularly inspired to write about the process. It’s been such a stop/start process, that I don’t feel like I’m improving the way or speed that I want. But let’s rip the bandage off quickly and just start blogging again! That’s the only way I’ve found to heal from procrastination: self-forgiveness and getting back to work.

    Practicing in Between (Part 1 & 2)

Winter’s begun and the longest night is here. I’m ready for fresh starts, a new year, and lengthening daylight slowly inching back towards spring. I’ve been practicing art quite a bit, and am so close to filling two sketchbooks: a multimedia one and a smaller drawing one (hopefully a sketchbook share video is coming in the near future 🤞). Today I have 25 sketchbook pages to share in this post (!!!). And I came up with the idea for an ongoing series that I’ve just begun, with a new original character!
