Creating Fantasy Inspiration Boards
This post comes from working through a short Skillshare class by Gabrielle Bricky called “Create Inspiration Boards & Streamline Your Artistic Process” The whole course was only 10 minutes, but I found it very inspiring! I liked Gabrielle’s approach on organizing Pinterest boards — so much so that I finally kicked myself in gear and organized my entire Pinterest account, ha. Which was amazing to finally clean up. I made most of my many boards private, but then opened up the four that I made for this class on my public Pinterest Profile.

Drawing Basics – Line work practice
Happy new year! Kicking it off with posting to my blog, yay! ^_^ These drawings are from working through the Proko Drawing Basics Course, specifically the CSI Lines exercise. Even though I’m going through the course much slower than I’d hoped, I can’t recommend it enough – Proko courses really feel similar to college level or atelier style workshops, compared to other online tutorials. Not to say I don’t also love and appreciate other courses and tutorials, I just think Proko courses are worth the cost, 10/10 would recommend. My photo game was very off with these – it was late at night, no natural sun unfortunately. Just sad desk…

Lace & Cloth Studies
Hooray for another longer holiday weekend. 😊 Feeling a bit better from the flu. I’ve pretty much just been testing out Procreate brushes, rather than working on any new artwork. It’s certainly a low-key, peaceful art practice. But I’m thinking tonight I might be able to do some more smaller studies, similar to these lace ones I created in late November. And there are a couple cloth studies and lace doodles from this past Wednesday done in Procreate.

Sketchbook Share: Rebecca
Here is the last of my November 2023 character sketchbook spreads, this time featuring my OC Rebecca. Whose design I cannot figure out; I cannot seem to draw her face accurately from what I picture in my mind T_T. But an attempt was made! I’m also slogging through a precious vacation day with a sore throat and feeling under the weather generally, boooo.

Sketchbook share: Lore
So I wasn’t as productive as I hoped Wednesday, after posting in here T_T. I felt exhausted around 6:30pm and could just not get moving. So alas, no dance practice. I did manage much later in the evening to work out for like 20 minutes on the simple aerobic step we have (listening to Gundam Wing music ^_^), and that helped cheer me up a little. I think I’m just like a little worn out from the last month or so. But hey! More original character sketches to share from the end of November!

Sketchbook Share: Ianthenna
This is the third of my November OC sketchbook spreads, featuring Ianthenna, from my In Between series (which… I have not forgotten about, I swear). I still struggle with a consistent look for my characters, where the features are specific and stylized enough. For practicing quick portraits, though, I consider this page a success. Because this character is often wearing fancy dressing gowns and pajama type outfits (living in a type of dream plane of existence), I also wanted to practice frilly lace collars and cuffs, as that’s what I envision them wearing most of the time.

Sketchbook Share: Ariennha
Last post, I mentioned a series of OC sketchbook pages I filled, starting with Reiellasara and now moving on to Ariennha. Ariennha is a character very close to my heart, even if I haven’t drawn her much – I’ve spent many an hour daydreaming stories and world building in my mind over the years. She’s definitely got Mary Sue energy, but I honestly do not care, I love the character. But why haven’t I made very much art of those daydreams? The trick to getting those ideas down as drawings is to just Nike-style “Do It”.
