Drawing Basics – Line work practice
Happy new year! Kicking it off with posting to my blog, yay! ^_^ These drawings are from working through the Proko Drawing Basics Course, specifically the CSI Lines exercise. Even though I’m going through the course much slower than I’d hoped, I can’t recommend it enough – Proko courses really feel similar to college level or atelier style workshops, compared to other online tutorials. Not to say I don’t also love and appreciate other courses and tutorials, I just think Proko courses are worth the cost, 10/10 would recommend.
My photo game was very off with these – it was late at night, no natural sun unfortunately. Just sad desk lamp, and quick iPhone photos. Photoshop editing couldn’t save them, even with de-saturating and level adjustments. I want to sort out a better lighting set up! 😩
Anyway, these are from reference images provided within the course. Boots, a snail, a camel, and a skeleton wearing a hat. I had a lot of fun with the boots – it makes me want to get my own boots out of my closet and draw them from life!
I was really trying to focus on pulling a confident line all the way through the contour. I’m quite happy with how most of the lines turned out, except the snail. The snail one I just did not have fun with. Is because I don’t like snails? Hah. Maybe.
Can I also just take a moment to appreciate that I spelled my pen name wrong, LOL. I’ve been switching from Elizabeth to Lizbeth online for my art social media accounts, but apparently went into muscle memory and still dropped in the “a” in there. It’s going to take some getting used to!
I’m happy I have today off work, as I’m still sick >_<. It has not been a great holiday weekend. But I did manage to work out today to a Datura belly dance video. I’m possibly going to do the January challenge. At least I’m on track for day 1, haha ^_^*
Now to clean up a bit, and maybe draw? Since Friday I’ve drawn one sketchbook page and made slow progress testing out the Procreate default brushes, but it’s been very BLAH with the flu. I am trying to be gentle on myself.
Happy 2024 & ’til next time.
